The Blackboard Artist is a London based outfit founded by Michael Tilly in 2013. Michael and his team conduct workshops, sell unique artwork and produce bespoke blackboard art for impressive clients including Soho House, Everyman Cinemas and Virgin Active.
Michael’s business and reputation has grown considerably in the last 5 years but his brand had not. He approached us to create a new brand identity that reflected his more experienced offering.
It was important that the brand reflect the hand crafted nature of the business. Needless to say we partnered with Michael to craft a logo using his very own bespoke lettering.
Building on the bespoke lettering created for the logo, we partnered with Michael to design, refine and digitise a bespoke typeface: The Blackboard Artist Sans.
This custom typeface captured the character and charm of bespoke blackboard lettering – making the brand identity more ownable and personal.
A key deliverable was a new e-commerce website with multiple user cases. It not only showcased a updated portfolio, it also allowed users to book spaces at Workshops and purchase one-off items. The back-end offered rich customer management tools, an automatic email generator and an intuitive content management system.
